Meridith Moore is the lead singer with the stunning lungs who fronts the celebrated blues band The Sugar Thieves. If you have ever had the pleasure of seeing them live you know the power of Moore’s voice, not only when she’s singing, but even when she talks between songs. She simply has a powerful presence and while she surrounds herself with some of the most amazing talent in the valley, she is the core of The Sugar Thieves and it’s her voice that their fans are coming to here. While the band began as a duo in 2006, they soon added members one by one to fill out the entire band, it was at that point they started gaining recognition. They have won the Phoenix Blues Society’s “Arizona State Blues Showdown” three times in 2009, 2010, and 2013. The Sugar Thieves even went on to compete in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, where in 2009 they were voted one of the top ten unsigned blues bands in the world, and won the “People’s Choice” award in 2010 and 2013. Clearly the world of blues has taken notice of The Sugar Thieves and their talent. In 2013 they were invited to play the Cahors Blues Festival, in France along with many other gigs in Europe. They were also featured on PBS’ “Songwriters’ Showcase” program, performing at Tempe Center for the arts. If you have ever seen them live you know that all of these accolades are well deserved. If you haven’t, there is still time for you to catch up, they have four albums released and a fifth well on it’s way. While you are waiting for that you can enjoy Sugar Thieves Live (2010), The Sugar Thieves (2011), How The Sugar Thieves Stole Christmas! (2011) and Plywood Palace (2012). This is some serious delta blues and it’s so authentic that every time I see them, I wish they had some barbeque or some soul food to go with the amazing music!
