Many know Tristan DeDe as the guitarist, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with the unwavering smile from Future Loves Past. Without a doubt, this is his most prominent role and the chemistry of the band would be absolutely impossible without his guitar brilliance or his honey-throated harmonies, much less his contributions to the songwriting. Beyond his prominent role in the band DeDe is also a very talented filmmaker and animator. I had the pleasure of working with DeDe on two interview films I did, one with Wooden Indian and The Wizards of Time and the other with the now Platinum selling international artists KONGOS. He was the animator behind Future Loves Past own video for “Grow Up Tall” as well as the Japhy’s Descent’s video for “Owl”, the first single from their new album Christopher Robin. In my mind DeDe is something of a modern day renaissance man, but still his musical contributions to the amazing catalog of Future Loves Past is what stands out most. From their debut to their first full length album All The Luscious Plants, from Our Solar System EP to their brand new Hold On Tight EP, it is a wondrous experience to bask in the warm glow of his ever present guitar and amazing vocals. DeDe provides a unique counterpart to Eric Palmer in the band and in a strange arrangement, as they both stand at the front of he stage, they each lead the performance in completely different, mystifying ways. He always seems gentle and groove laden, like a Zen master who knows not of Zen.
